Geomembrane is an insulating polymer material, manufactured in rolls. Scope: geotechnics, environmental engineering
It is not like the film, which is often used in a domestic environment or in the garden. It uses more sophisticated technology. The starting material is of different density polyethylene with added stabilizers, carbon black, antioxidants. That's why its main characteristics are as corrosion, waterproofing, flexibility, dimensional stability, inertness to alkali and acids, resistance to cracking. On these properties ultraviolet irradiation and temperature variations do not have a negative effect, since in the geomembrane are no additives or fillers that contribute to aging and to reduce the physical and mechanical characteristics.
Due to these characteristics geomembrane used in various spheres of national economy:
- Landfill;
- Ponds (ornamental);
- Impervious protection stations, oil terminals.
There are three main types of geomembranes. First established on the basis of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene). The latter are based on LLDPE (low density polyethylene). Still others are based on a flexible polypropylene.
Geomembrane Hi Density Polyethylene - has high strength. It is used in the construction of specialized storage of liquid and solid industrial wastes, corrosion and waterproofing coating on concrete, metal, brick and other surfaces in landfills and reservoirs of drinking water.
Geomembrane Linear Low-Density Polyethylene - has a high elasticity, through which you can solve problems not solved by the use of geomembrane HDPE. Used in construction of buildings on collapsible soils, remediation of municipal and industrial landfills for waste storage for the localization of unauthorized and abandoned waste dumps, for waterproofing various objects.
The main advantages of geomembranes:
- Economical installation;
- Seismic stability;
- Easy storage and transportation;
- The material is waterproof;
- Quickly perform welding work;
- There are chemical resistance to most of the options impact the environment;
- Reducing the volume of excavation;
- Availability of impervious vertical barrier;
- Spent quality evaluation methods.
Geomembrane Liners are impermeable membranes used widely as cut-offs and liners. Thanks for detailing more about one of the types of geomembranes.
